Top 4 Athletic Apparel Items from the ‘90s

Posted by Scott Savett on

1) The Starter Jacket

This came in two distinct forms: the monstrous winter coat version and the thin, sleek windbreaker version. If you were in middle school in the early ‘90s, you probably had one of these in your locker. (Luckily, your choice between our Performance shorts and our Flow shorts won’t be nearly as difficult—both are comfortable without being baggy.)

2) The “College” Sweatshirt

Get a basic gray hoodie, slap the words “Michigan” or “Penn State” on it and you’re good to go. Though unlikely to be on their way to the gym, most teenage boys had a weekly rotation of college sweatshirts in their closets—a great way to look athletic without having to sweat for it.

College sweatshirts are the best -- especially for athletic apparel in the '90s.

3) Umbro Shorts

Apparently, these were soccer shorts—but don’t remind us and our non-soccer playing friends of that. Though they never fit right, we wore these shorts all day every day throughout the early ‘90s. (And now we have our very own all-purpose shorts that fit properly, hitting just above the knee.)

4) Bo Jackson Shoes

Sure Michael Jordans carried the weight of his name, but, for our money, Bo Jackson sneakers were the go-to sneakers for middle school boys.

Coming in black and grey with the iconic “34” on the backs, these sneakers made it through the rainy spring into the hot summer to the chilly fall into the snowy winter and back round again. When they finally got worn out, we just bought another pair.

(To avoid that extra shopping trip, we made our shorts as durable as possible. 100% machine washable with deep and easily accessible pockets, our athletic apparel will get you through your fitness routine during any season.)
